Vinyl transfers, Polytechnic Street, Woolwich, August 2017

A series of mark-making, transformative processes – from one year (July 2016) to the next (August 2017): a graphite rubbing from a fibreglass window panel; a digital scan; a (negative) digital print onto film; a cyanotype print onto paper; a digital re-capture; two large format vinyl transfer prints; a temporary installation in situ.Polytechnic Street is named after the Woolwich Polytechnic, built in 1891 and extended between then and 1965. The buildings are now in partial use and the site will be redeveloped in the next few years. In psychoanalysis ‘transference’ refers to the transfer of thoughts or feelings from one object or situation to another.
